Before 7am's "Roots" collection, is a collection inspired by the fashion traditions of the Dutch Golden Ages, interpreted through the lense of contemporary Amsterdam street style.

ANNABEL
Annabel is a talented designer and entrepreneur who runs Before 7am. She creates unique designs and accessories that can be worn by everyone, every shape, and all genders. She is conscious with her products and use only the best materials and sustainable production set up.
DESIGNS
The "M/V" collar is part of Before 7am's "Roots" collection, a collection inspired by the fashion traditions of the Dutch Golden Ages, interpreted through the lense of contemporary Amsterdam street style. "M/V" is a fusing between the women's and men's collars of the 17th century. The bottom collar in white linen represents the female style and the indigo top collar the male style..
AMK ATELIER - PATTERN & MAKE
Annabel and I worked closely together to develop the collars in the atelier.
DESIGN- CONCEPT
We started with a creative get-together to discuss her ideas, and she showed me her moodboards and drawings. She explained her concept to me and what she wanted with this collection.
DRAPING & PATTERN MAKING
The next session we worked on getting her ideas into reality and an actual product. We worked with my mannequins and paper to create the silhouettes. After the draping session I traced the silhouettes to CAD patterns and plotted them for the samplings.
COLLECTION
The 3 designs were tailored in the atelier one by one by hand. The sample collection was ready for Annabel to use for her photo shoot and sales.
FABRICS -
NATURAL DYE
All collars are made with natural fibres.
ORGANIC COTTON
The chambray denim is made of indigo dyed cotton yarns together with off white cotton. All cotton used in this collection is organic cotton. Even the yarn is made of recycled polyester covered with organic cotton.
VEGAN SILK
The bow in one of the collars are made of "vegan silk" - also mention as Tencel. Normal silk comes form the secret of larvas, but this material is made out of wood, but it has the similar silky touch and feeling.
NATURAL INDIGO DYED
- The bow is dyed in natural indigo, which make is a perfect combination. The depth of the natural dye and indigo pigment are shimmering in the silky material. The bow is piece dye, which create the beautiful seam abrasions.

TULIPA
- The Tulipa collar is part of "Roots" collection, a collection inspired by the fashion traditions of the Dutch Golden Ages, interpreted through the lense of contemporary Amsterdam street style. This style is made from a Japanese cotton, which is woven in a traditional way and is known for its signature crinkled look.
PLOOI
- The "Plooi" collar is part of Before 7am's "Roots" collection, a collection inspired by the fashion traditions of the Dutch Golden Ages, interpreted through the lense of contemporary Amsterdam street style. "Plooi" is inspired by the gathering technique used in 17th Century collar fashion.
M/V
- The "M/V" collar is part of Before 7am's "Roots" collection, a collection inspired by the fashion traditions of the Dutch Golden Ages, interpreted through the lense of contemporary Amsterdam street style.
