This quilted pillow is made with linen, cotton, and hemp: all recycled fabrics from other projects made in the atelier. The colors are obtained using natural (plant based) dyes. Some of the fabrics are hand-dyed by me in my atelier, here in Amsterdam. Traditional quilts inspire the design. The filling in the pillow is made out of 100% recycled pet bottles, and itfeatures a blind zipper in polyester (still looking for recycled blind zippers).

The blues in this quilt are created using Indigo. Indigo is a dye different than any other. It does not require a mordant, rather it is dyed through a living fermentation process. A vat of indigo is complex and requires proper instruction, experience, commitment, and comprehension of what's going on in the dye vat, and requires maintaining a balanced alkaline solution. To achieve dark blue I immerse the fabric in the dye bath numerous times, allowing the cloth to dry between sessions, layering the color on the cloth creates a darker blue with each dip. Some of the blue fabric is dyed in my atelier, and some are saved fabric pieces form projects where the indigo was dyed industrially.

Each pillow is handmade and unique, so no pillow will have the same material or look. As this is product is made of natural fibers and colors the pillow can change color slightly intime. This is normal for this kind of product.
